How does a camera work? DSLR and Mirrorless System explained

"The core of the photography is to capture LIGHT"

Photography is all about capturing light. Different settings and direction defines a well shot photographs. Two types of digital Camera methods are MOST POPULAR to capture light.

1- DSLR ( Digital Single lens Reflex)

A DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera is a digital camera that combines the optics and the mechanisms of a single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor. The mirror in a DSLR reflects the light up to the optical viewfinder where you see what is going to be captured.

:> The light goes into the camera through the lens which has an aperture inside. It opens and decides how much light will go further inside.

:> The camera sensor is behind camera shutter which has a reflex mirror and blocks lights to directly fall onto sensor. This reflex mirror helps you to see in optical view finder what the lens sees.

:> When you press camera's shutter release button, the shutter opens

:> When shutter opens up, the light hits camera sensor where it is captured as digital image and saves in your camera memory.

2- Mirrorless

mirrorless camera is one that doesn’t require a reflex mirror. There is no optical viewfinder. The imaging sensor is exposed to light at all times. This gives you a digital preview of your image either on the rear LCD screen or an electronic viewfinder (EVF).

:>The light goes into the camera through the lens which has an aperture inside. It opens and decides how much light will go further inside. Same as DSLR

:> The camera sensor is directly exposed to light coming through lens.

:> This helps you to see a preview of the exposure of the photo based on variable settings

:> When you press the shutter release button, the digital image of lights falling on the sensor gets captured and saves in camera memory.

So that's you these two camera system works. The fundamentals are same that light has to fall on photo sensitive sensors to capture light. DSLR uses a reflex mirror while Mirrorless doesn't. These two because of the methods have their pros and cons.
